Course
Objectives: |
This
course will focus on the proper techniques of performing aerobic
routines. All students will have an opportunity to achieve a higher
level of physical fitness through cardiovascular workouts and
spot toning of muscle groups. Students will be able to:
-
perform
proper warm-up exercises for the entire body,
-
use
correct alignment
-
monitor
their heart-rates after strenuous movement
-
utilize
proper techniques for stretches and cool-down
-
discuss
health issues which will be covered, through directed readings, that
include diet, nutrition, injury prevention and life-style .

Readings for Body Conditioning (Bring to EVERY class)
1. Attendance is crucial as it is the basis for all improvement.
2. . Understanding the reading material and doing in-class assignments based on
this knowledge. See Reading
Schedule
3. Understanding and using the heart-rate monitoring formula.
4. Participation in cardiovascular and muscle conditioning over the
course of the semester.
5. A written final exam that tests the students’ knowledge of correct
physical fitness techniques as well as health issues covered in class. |
Grading:
IF FOR SOME REASON YOU CANNOT COMPLETE THIS COURSE YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR
DROPPING THE CLASS. IF YOU DO NOT OFFICIALLY DROP THE COURSE A GRADE
OF "F" WILL APPEAR IN YOUR TRANSCRIPTS.
Final
grade will be out of 100 points as follows:
1.Attendance is out of 70 points. Each class missed equals minus 5
points. Each late equals minus 2 point. Points can be made up by
participating in other Body Conditioning or Body Dynamics classes with
the permission of the other teachers up until the 12th week
of the semester (see Extra Credit below).
2.Effort
and Improvement including in-class assignments and participation in class
discussion is out of 10 points
3.Written
final exam based on Body
Conditioning Readings is out of 20 points. 4.Final Exam Date:
Fri. June 1, 8:00a.m.(If
you have a conflict with English/ESL exam time or require a special
accommodation please see teacher 3 weeks IN ADVANCE) |

Extra Credit:
A maximum of three classes may be made up in any
other aerobic conditioning class with the permission of the instructor for a credit of
5 points for each makeup. Have the teacher
of the class sign a note or makeup slip (available from Ms. Eckler).
Make sure that your name, the date and the length of the class you
took is on the note. You may also watch the video Supersize Me
and submit a synopsis and review of it for one of the three makeups. |

85-100 A
70-84 B
60-69 C
50-59 D

Attire:
Students
may wear workout pants, sweatpants, camisole tops, T-Shirts
(tight-fitting) or sweats
Sturdy aerobic shoes with arch supports and a thick sole are
necessary.
Long hair must be tied back
NO LOOSE JEWELRY(i.e.bracelets, drop earrings or necklaces).
NO CHEWING GUM IN CLASS
Jock straps are recommended for men as are sports bras for women.
A towel and cold water in a sport top plastic bottle are
recommended.
NO ONE
WILL BE ALLOWED TO JOIN IN LATE. LATECOMERS (those that arrive after warmup stretches are over ) MUST SIT OUT AND
OBSERVE WHILE TAKING NOTES ON ALL CORRECTIONS GIVEN BY THE INSTRUCTOR. |
