Welcome to Beginning
This course introduces
students to yoga with an emphasis on proper form to prevent injuries,
modifications for tight, weak or inflexible bodies, correct breathing
techniques as well as meditation practice.
You do not need to be an expert to enjoy this
class. I hope to make it a fun opportunity for you to get fit, and
flexible. You will learn the English vocabulary for yoga poses as well
as the history and philosophy of this ancient practice. All of these new skills will help you

result of participation:
- identify the historic and cultural roots of yoga practice
- practice stress reduction techniques using a variety of
- focus on the Hatha Yoga technique as well as breathing
and meditation/relaxation exercises derived from other styles.
- identify a variety of yoga poses
- employ correct use of muscle groups in order to
gain maximum benefit from the Yoga poses.
- design personal fitness routines that will be enhanced by the
awareness of how breathing and relaxation affect the bodies
flexibility and endurance.
- SLO 1:. The student will create and perform a yoga vinyasa
sequence, demonstrating the correct use of yoga poses (asanas), body
alignment and modifications as appropriate.

1. This asynchronous course allows you to work on your
schedule! You will need to check into CANVAS often and devote 4-6
hours a week to practice. The course has quizzes, discussions and
assignments but the days that you do those are up to you! If you want
to get ahead, you can move at your own pace in this course. Getting
ahead is fine but if you get behind and miss deadlines, it may affect
your grade. So stay on a schedule!
You will not be allowed entry

NOTE: If you have any special needs or physical considerations
please consult the instructor prior to beginning this class.
Notification of the instructor regarding pregnancy, neck or back
problems, glaucoma, or high blood pressure (that is not being treated)
is required. Modifications may be suggested and precautionary measures
(including clearance by your medical professional) should be followed
in order to assure your safety.
IF FOR SOME REASON YOU CANNOT COMPLETE THIS COURSE YOU ARE
RESPONSIBLE FOR DROPPING THE CLASS. IF YOU DO NOT OFFICIALLY DROP THE
COURSE BY THE 2ND WEEK OF THE SEMESTER A GRADE OF "W" WILL APPEAR IN
YOUR TRANSCRIPTS. FAILURE TO DROP THE COURSE BEFORE FINALS WILL RESULT
IN A GRADE OF "F".
grade will be based on a point system. Keeping track of points may be
confusing but you can keep track of your achievement by looking under
the "Grades" tab in CANVAS. This will inform you of your grade
percentage in relation to 100 %.
As mentioned earlier, you
can move ahead in the course at your own pace. If a discussion you
have submitted, requires a response to other students, you are welcome
to reach back to that discussion later, to drop in your
comments, (as long as it is before the due date!).
Late work will be penalized
as follows: 5% will be deducted from the grade you achieved, for each
day that the assignment/discussion is late. The minimum you will
receive on any assignment, is 60% of your given grade. This should
encourage you to get in all assignments - even if they are late, since
additional points could add up to a passing grade!!
Pay attention to due dates
and FIRM DATES! Firm dates will be used for assignments that MUST be
submitted by a particular date. No late submissions will be accepted
for these assignments.

There will be a number of extra credit
assignments in CANVAS over the semester. Each of these assignments
will display that the grade is out of zero . This is just how they
have to be shown, so that CANVAS doesn't penalize those who don't
choose to do this extra work. I will always let you know, in the body
of the assignment, the maximum extra credit points you can possibly
receive for these assignments.
Grade Percentage Point System:
Below 60% F
Students should wear loose comfortable clothing
that allows stretch and bare feet. It is best to perform Yoga practice
on an empty stomach. Having a large towel available to sit on or cover
yourself with is helpful. Mats will be
provided but you are welcome to bring your own.
